What closing the gap means for Kiara and Dennis
First Nations People are three times more likely to suffer from visual impairment than non-indigenous Australians. And when a condition or disease is diagnosed, they wait longer for surgery accounting for 11% of the health gap. That's why, Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation is asking for community support to provide equal access to the expert care at Sydney Eye Hospital for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in regional and remote areas.

Triple Access
With generous funds from the community, we will be able to work collaboratively with health care partners at Prince of Wales Hospital, Rural Doctors Network, Optometry NSW, and the Brien Holden Foundation to unlock three pathways to improved eye health for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Regional Access
Visiting ophthalmologists will provide clinical and surgical expertise in conjunction with local services at new and established outreach clinics.
Virtual Access
A clinic with telemedicine connections and capacity to ensure follow-up locally will improve quality of care and outcomes.
Specialist Access
A new culturally sensitive clinic for Indigenous peoples at Sydney Eye Hospital will overcome barriers to care.
